UPDATE

We are excited for another couple of weeks of enriching learning at Copperfield School! February is also Kindness Month, and we look forward to celebrating kindness with our students through stories and activities. Acting with kindness and generosity is essential in building a strong, healthy, and vibrant community that we hold dear as our school motto is “Copperfield has heart.” Throughout the month, Copperfield School will focus on kindness through activities, daily Kindness messages during Morning Announcements, and recognition of special events like Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day originated in Halifax, Nova Scotia back in 2008 with two high school aged students that saw a need to be kind while another student was not being treated with kindness and respect. That one act of compassion quickly spread beyond the school. Today, Pink Shirt Day is observed annually in Canada on the last Wednesday of February. Wear pink as a visible symbol of support for kindness, inclusion, and respect for others. We are so proud of our students who continue to model kindness within our learning spaces and throughout the community.

Thank you for your support! Copperfield has heart!

 SCHOOL CLOTHING ORDER

Once again, our school council is offering a chance to order Copperfield School apparel.  This is the link to place an order  https://copperfieldomg2026.itemorder.com/shop/home/.

Ordering closes February 16 – no late orders accepted.

VALENTINES DAY CARDS

Next week, students are welcome to bring Valentine’s Day cards to share with their classmates on Wednesday, February 11. Any candy or treats will be sent home to be enjoyed outside of school. Participation is completely optional. If your child chooses to bring something, please ensure there is enough for the entire class. Thank you for your cooperation and support in making this a fun and inclusive celebration for everyone.

LATE ARRIVALS AND HUG AND GO LANE

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to address traffic congestion and late arrivals. We have implemented a multi-pronged approach and are already seeing positive results.

The introduction of our Hug and Go Lane has been very successful in improving traffic flow. In addition, two staff members are stationed on either side of the crosswalk each morning to support safe crossings and help reduce congestion. By ensuring there is a flow of traffic past the crosswalk, families are more easily able to access the Hug and Go Lane.

*Please do not jaywalk or drop off your children in the middle of the street.

Throughout the school year, teachers are also on supervision at each grade-level entrance from 7:47 a.m. until the entry bell rings at 7:57 a.m. This supervision allows families to use the Hug and Go Lane confidently and helps keep traffic moving smoothly.

As a reminder, the entry bell rings at 7:57 a.m., and classes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. If your child arrives after this time, please enter through the office so attendance can be adjusted. Student safety remains our top priority. Thank you for your cooperation and ongoing support as we work together to keep our school community safe.

SPARE CLOTHING

If you are cleaning your students closet over the next few weeks, and you have some spare joggers, or sweatpants in size 6-10 and would like to donate them, we would really appreciate the donation.

RECORDERS (Grade 3, 4 & 5 only)

This year the recorder unit will begin in February for all students in Grades 3, 4 and 5.  The school has a limited number of loaner recorders however they would only be used during class time. We recommend each student order a recorder if they do not already own one. Cost of the recorder and music book will be $11.00, payable through your MyCBE account.

1. Click on Student Fees and Service Registration

2. Select School based optional fees

3. Add Recorder to cart

4. Pay for fee

All ordering for recorders must be in and paid for prior to Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to ensure your child has a recorder for late February.

The book that comes with the fee will stay at home for practicing and the recorder is to 'live in your backpack'.

REPORT CARDS

Parents and Guardians of students in all grades will have access to view student report cards starting Tuesday, February 24 through their MyCBE account. The report card is one of the ways teachers communicate how your child is progressing in their learning.

The CBE has developed some resources related to assessment and report cards to help families learn more about their child's learning.

§  How is My Child Doing in School?

§  K-9 Proficiency Scale Video

§  Report Card Indicators

§  Accessing the Online Report Card If you require support to view the report card please contact the main office, and if you have questions regarding the report card, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

CURRICULUM INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

We recognize that parents play an important role in shaping the way their children view learning. Alberta Education’s My Child’s Learning Resource page provides an overview of the curriculum for Kindergarten to High School. This resource will provide you with an understanding of Alberta’s curriculum and related information for your child. Specific curriculum areas and outcomes that are reflected on the report card can be explored in detail. This will also help you discover what your child is learning, how they are being assessed, and what resources are available to help students be successful from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

REGISTRATION FOR 2026/27 SCHOOL YEAR

If you still reside in Copperfield, all students currently in Kindergarten to Grade 5 will automatically be transferred to the next school grade. NOTE: if you have moved out of, or will be moving out of, Copperfield for the 2026/2027 school year please let the school office know at copperfield@cbe.ab.ca and we will let you know your next steps.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026/2027 school year began on January 12, 2026. Registration is done online through School Engage. For information on what documents are required, and what to expect during the registration process for Kindergarten Registration click here. As we are a closed campus school, we are unable to accept out of area students.

The CBE has a rich variety of programs to personalize learning for students. A wonderful way to learn more about these programs is to visit the many open houses that take place throughout the year. To see the full calendar of open houses, including information on them, click here
