UPDATE

It has been another great week of learning at Copperfield School! A big thank you to all of the parent volunteers who participated in our second annual Career Day. It was a wonderful success, and we truly appreciate the time and effort that went into sharing your careers and experiences with our students.

We would also like to address several ongoing traffic safety concerns from during drop-off and pick-up times. We often observe instances of jaywalking and U-turns directly in front of the school. These actions are very dangerous and have resulted in several near-miss situations. For the safety of all students, families, and staff, we ask that all community members follow traffic rules and model safe behaviour at all times.

To help reduce congestion, we will be re-launching our Hug and Go Lane. This lane will be located in front of the school, behind the bus lane, and is intended for quick drop-offs only. We are also seeking parent volunteers to help with supervision during this time.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in keeping our school community safe. Together, we can ensure a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal for everyone. Copperfield has heart!

RE-LAUNCH OF THE COPPERFIELD SCHOOL HUG & GO LANE

To reduce the traffic congestion every morning we are going to relaunch our Hug and Go program to improve traffic flow and safety during morning drop-offs. A school Hug and Go Lane is a designated, supervised area for quick, safe student drop-off, requiring drivers to stay in their cars, pull forward, and let kids exit from the passenger side only to avoid congestion and accidents, with strict rules like not parking, idling, or walking kids to the door, to keep traffic flowing and ensure child safety near the school. This will be in front of the school behind the bus lane extending to the playground. (Previously, when our school opened, this was adjacent to the staffing parking lot.)

*This is a trial and we will review its success at the end of February.

Why It's Important:

  • Safety: Reduces dangerous situations with pedestrians and buses.
  • Reduces Congestion: Keeps traffic moving smoothly during busy times.
  • Supervision: Allows staff to supervise students arriving.

Rules & Etiquette:

Please:

  • Remain in your car at all times.
  • Move as far into the zone as possible before stopping.
  • Passenger Side Exit Only: Children must exit from the curb/passenger side.
  • Be Quick & Efficient: Have bags ready and make drop-off fast.
  • Please do not park or leave your car.
  • Follow Staff/Patrol: Obey instructions from school staff and safety patrols.
  • No Cutting in Line: Don't try to pass other vehicles.

REPORT CARDS

Parents and Guardians of students in all grades will have access to view student report cards starting Tuesday, February 24 through their MyCBE account. The report card is one of the ways teachers communicate how your child is progressing in their learning.

The CBE has developed some resources related to assessment and report cards to help families learn more about their child's learning.

 CURRICULUM INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

We recognize that parents play an important role in shaping the way their children view learning. Alberta Education’s My Child’s Learning Resource page provides an overview of the curriculum for Kindergarten to High School. This resource will provide you with an understanding of Alberta’s curriculum and related information for your child. Specific curriculum areas and outcomes that are reflected on the report card can be explored in detail. This will also help you discover what your child is learning, how they are being assessed, and what resources are available to help students be successful from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

RECORDERS (Grade 3, 4 & 5 only)

This year the recorder unit will begin in February for all students in Grades 3, 4 and 5.  The school has a limited number of loaner recorders however they would only be used during class time. We recommend each student order a recorder if they do not already own one. Cost of the recorder and music book will be $11.00, payable through your MyCBE account.

1. Click on Student Fees and Service Registration

2. Select School based optional fees

3. Add Recorder to cart

4. Pay for fee

All ordering for recorders must be in and paid for prior to Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to ensure your child has a recorder for late February.

The book that comes with the fee will stay at home for practicing and the recorder is to 'live in your backpack'.

REGISTRATION FOR 2026/27 SCHOOL YEAR

If you still reside in Copperfield, all students currently in Kindergarten to Grade 5 will automatically be transferred to the next school grade. NOTE: if you have moved out of, or will be moving out of, Copperfield for the 2026/2027 school year please let the school office know at copperfield@cbe.ab.ca and we will let you know your next steps.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026/2027 school year began on January 12, 2026. Registration is done online through School Engage. For information on what documents are required, and what to expect during the registration process for Kindergarten Registration click here. As we are a closed campus school, we are unable to accept out of area students.

The CBE has a rich variety of programs to personalize learning for students. A wonderful way to learn more about these programs is to visit the many open houses that take place throughout the year. To see the full calendar of open houses, including information on them, click here
